The Panasonic FV-15VQL5 WhisperLite 150 CFM fan features a totally enclosed condenser motor and a double-tapered, dolphin shaped bladed blower wheel to quietly move air. Panasonic fans are quiet enough that you might not even know they're on. Since a .1-Inch water gauge is an unrealistic amount of static pressure when installed, our fans have been rated at 0.25-Inch water gauge, the industry standard for performance measurement for ASHRAE, Energy Star, LEED for homes, and HVI. With a .9 sone level and rated 150 cubic feet per minute, this fan is designed to give you continuous, trouble-free operation for many years due to its high-quality components and permanently lubricated motors which wear at a slower pace. We designed the electrical configuration of this model's condenser motor to allow it to operate at lower temperatures, increasing the life of the motor and bearings. I have always been satisfied with Panasonic products so after reading these reviews I decided to purchase this exhaust fan for my basement bathroom. But the space under my basement ceiling tiles is limited. The description for this unit does not clearly list the size of it's exhaust duct which is 6" (inches) in diameter, not the standard dryer exhaust duct size of 4" (inches) in diameter. The old fan which is being replaced uses a standard 4" (inch) diameter exhaust duct. My contractor told me that in order to install this unit he would need to cut a larger hole through to the outside of the house because the existing hole is 4" (inches) in diameter and the new unit requires a 6" (inch) hole. This is nearly impossible because of the limited space between the floor and the basement ceiling tiles, and the fact that there is a huge beam between the outside wall and the siding that also needs to be re sized. This would require too much labor as apposed to leaving the existing hole at 4" (inches) in diameter and installing a new unit that requires a 4" (inch) exhaust duct. So I'm returning this unit in exchange for the 110-CFM Panasonic FV-11VQL5 which uses a 4" (inch) diameter exhaust duct. Before you purchase this unit be sure your contractor says there is sufficient space for the 6" (inch) exhaust duct that it requires. Also the color is listed as red? No, it is white. I suggest you go directly to the Panasonic website for more detailed info before purchasing.

I am very pleased with the quality, low noise level, and operation of this fan.
Regarding installation: The installation hardware is designed for installation with the lower housing flange above the ceiling. To install with the flange below the ceiling, I put blocks between the joists and the fan sides, and put screws through the housing into the blocks instead of using the supplied installation hardware.

Purchased both the 80cfm and the 150cfm versions of this fan for two bathrooms. The 80 cfm is VERY quiet. It is hard to tell it operating. The 150 cfm version is louder; that is, you can actually tell it is working! Both appear to be doing their job. The 150 cfm is above the shower and no moisture was seen on the mirrors. The people who installed it commented on the solid design, attention to detail (wrapped wires) and overall workmanship. Design/workmanship was readily obvious when looking at the old fans that were removed (~12 years old). Other than wanting to have a something less than the 32w fluorescent bulb (pretty bright in small bath), this appears to be a great fan and for a very good price at Amazon.
